FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – SIS RENTAL SERVICES
Single-Channel and Multi-Channel SIS rental
We provide single-channel and multi-channel SIS rental services. Single-channel systems are used for interpreting between one language pair, and multi-channel systems are used when there is more than one language pair being spoken.
No, the fee is different. The multi-channel system fee is higher, because it requires more devices, and is a more complex and heavier system.
Yes, it does. The fee we propose will include installation, the operator, etc. However, it does not include transportation, which will be added based on the distance to the location of the event.
SIS installation time
If the event starts in the morning, ideally the SIS should be installed one day before the event. Installation can be carried out the night before the event if the room is already prepared (and not in use for another event). However, if the event starts in the afternoon, installation can take place during the morning before the event.
We require a loading letter, or a letter of permission to enter and bring our equipment into the location the event is being held. Without the letter, there is a possibility our team may be denied entry into the building, and may not be able to install the SIS in time.
Headset distribution method
This depends on the format of the event. They can be placed on tables, if all participants require the use of headsets. Or, a registration system may be used if only some of the participants require headsets.
We will cater to the audience members who are using the headsets. However, if our client prefers, we don’t mind handing this responsibility over to our clients.
Does there always have to be an interpreter booth?
Yes. The standard is that for the simultaneous interpreting method, a booth must be used. The primary function of the booth is to mitigate sound so that sounds from the floor don’t get picked up by the interpreter’s microphone, and also to ensure the interpreter’s voice is not audible on the floor.
This would result in the audience hearing both the interpreter’s voice and sounds from the floor.
The audience members closest to the interpreter’s table would be the most disturbed by the interpreter’s voice, especially if they are not using the interpreting service themselves, since they understand the speaker’s language.
Not only that, without the booth, the interpreter may be unable to focus or concentrate, resulting in a less than optimal performance.
We are keenly aware that simultaneous interpreting requires high-level coordination between the brain, the ears, the eyes, and the mouth, simultaneously. This requires a conducive environment, and the booth provides such an environment.
The interpreter booth does not have to be constructed in full. There is also a table-top interpreter booth option.
If the destination is reachable by land, we will transport the booth from our location. However, if the destination is not driveable, we will borrow a booth from one of our business partners in the local region where the event is taking place, or sending the booth via air cargo.
The client will cover these costs. However, if the client prefers, we can provide an all-in-one service, provided that the event is confirmed, and the client will cover the cost of transportation, accommodation and the like, should the event be cancelled by the client.
