SIMULTANEOUS WRITTEN TRANSLATION
Simultaneous written translation (known as CART, or communication access real-time translation) is a method of language transfer where the input language is in the form of speech and the output language is written. This method of translation is done simultaneously.
The results of this form of translation are usually projected onto a monitor screen on stage or in an event room real-time, so that participants who require this service, such as those who are deaf, or elderly or hearing impaired, can understand what the speaker is saying.
TEXT INTERPRETATING
Text interpretation, also known as sight translation, is a variation on interpreting where the input in the source language is a text and the output is spoken. Text interpreting is the opposite of simultaneous written translation.
Typically sight translation is used in the midst of interpreting, where data may be written in the source language and needs to be translated at the moment in the target language, and the interpreter immediately interprets while reading the text.
However, there are times when sight translation is necessary in its entirety. These instances include when a report is delivered with reference materials in the source language, and in this instance, the role of the interpreter is conducted at greater speed using sight translation rather than translating in written form.

- whether the word choice/diction is suitable;
- whether there are unclear, ambiguous, or multiple possible interpretations of meaning;
- whether there are overly verbose, superfluous or ineffective sentences;
- whether the tone of the writing is in accordance with the goals of the writer and appropriate to the target reader;
- whether the client’s style-guide has been followed, if a style-guide is provided;

In general, transcription is the translation of spoken word into written text. Materials that may need to be transcribed include audio, video and other forms.
The types of transcription include:
- Verbatim: the detailed transcribing of what is spoken so that the message that is conveyed is exactly what is being said. These details include writing down exactly what is said, word-for-word without exception, including nonverbal speech, such as the clearing of throat, applause and other sounds.
- Proceeding (clean-read transcripts): the transcription of the meaning of what is being said. In this method, words that do not contribute to the overall meaning of the speech are not included, such as the repetition of words, and any nonverbal details. Mistakes in grammar are corrected at the end to provide a more reader-friendly version.
- Summary: the transcription of what is spoken in summary form.
