METHODS OF INTERPRETING

We provide interpreters for various languages who are able to provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.

Consecutive

Consecutive interpretation is a method of interpreting where the speaker speaks for a few minutes, or until the completion of a specific topic, and then pauses to provide the interpreter the opportunity to verbally translate what has been said.

Then, after the interpreter is finished, the speaker continues to the next point.

Simultaneous

Simultaneous interpretation is a method of interpreting where the interpreter verbally translates into the target language at the same time the speaker is speaking in the source language.

This requires a level of linguistic aptitude that is above average, including a vast vocabulary, a high level of concentration in order to listen and pay attention to the situation as well as interpret simultaneously.

Additionally, physical and vocal stamina is an important requisite in order to fulfil the role of simultaneous interpreter.

With the method of simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter works in a specified room called an interpreter booth, in order to minimize any outside distractions.

However, there are times when interpreters are assigned to interpret for a small number of people. In situations such as this, in order to not disturb other participants, the interpreter may interpret in a quiet or whispered voice. This method is called whispering simultaneous interpretation.

With this method, usually the interpreter is placed behind, next to, or in the center of the small group of people who require interpretation.

Simultaneous interpretation may be facilitated by equipment known as a simultaneous interpretation system, or SIS.
